Reviews & Testimonials

Teiresian aims to have a positive impact on people’s lives, to carve a little space of acceptance and trans and queer joy in art. We place immense importance on the experience of the artists and writers we work with, the small businesses we collaborate with, and the quality of the products we make.

Here you can find some of the reviews we’ve been sent by contributors, colleagues and customers.

As you know, Germination is the first zine that homed some of my pieces so it naturally has a special place in my heart. Perhaps I am biased, but among the 4 magazines that had physical bodies I have worked with, Germination was easily the most pleasant experience. Communication with you, the editor, was reliable and frequent. I felt safe giving you my pieces. If ever there was an issue (for example, a typo in my work) you asked before correcting it. That level of respect between contributor and editor is important to me. Additionally, when you noticed I updated my pronouns at the end of my emails, you asked if I’d like to update them in any posts talking about the issue, as well, which was extremely thoughtful and shows how much you genuinely care for the contributors of your magazine.

Being paid for my contribution made a massive impact on me, not only because, for the first time, I could say I have been paid for my writing, but because it allowed me to start my medical transition. Words can’t express how much that means, but in this way, Germination has changed my life forever. I hope that doesn’t sound like an exaggeration.

Finally, the quality of the end product is something I’m extremely happy and impressed with. I have been involved in magazines that didn’t care half as much about the appearance, about the materials used, the texture. Germination is a beautiful magazine. The paper’s quality is both excellent and satisfying to touch, adding a homemade feel. The ink is a little faded in some places (still legible) which I actually appreciate, it adds to that wholesome, lovingly-crafted feel. Something you wouldn’t get from a big press. And finally, the art that you created to accent the pieces is beautiful. It pairs wonderfully with the font choices and the general vibe of the magazine and the colours are easy on the eyes. Very aesthetically pleasing and deserves its middle place on my shelf.

I don’t believe you cut a single corner in the creation of Germination and I’m so, so excited to see what you have in store for us in the next issue.

I’ve had such a lovely experience throughout with being a part of this project, from initially submitting my art to finally holding a physical copy in my hands.

Being one of the creatives featured in this first issue really does feel like being part of a community, I’ve loved seeing it all come together – I really do think that this is the kind of opportunity that we need more of, giving people who don’t traditionally get the spotlight an opportunity to tell their own stories.

The atmosphere has been so warm and supportive for me, and it’s really rare to run into something like this where that atmosphere holds up all the way through. The art I submitted is in such good company here, with a showcase of so many talented artists, writers, and more – looking through the final copy and seeing what we all created together made me really emotional.

And the issue itself is so beautifully crafted and designed and presented – it’s a stunning piece of print. I was really excited when it was announced that it would be risograph printed, as that’s my main printmaking medium, and I was not disappointed! It feels really right thematically, as one of the most eco-friendly printing methods, and it’s also really visually striking. It feels simultaneously so professional and so intimate and handcrafted, and I’m really proud to finally be able to display it on my bookshelf.

First of all, working with Adrian has been great, I feel like I got regular updates keeping me in the loop of what was happening with Teiresian, and generally Adrian seems like a really cheerful person with a lot of passion for this project!

I really like how much thought went into the printing of the book – I’ve heard about all the learning of book binding and print making that has been going on, and it feels like a really thought out good quality publication. I also have quite a soft spot for riso printing!

As the maker of the magazine, I’ve had a unique insight into it as a project. I’ve seen through conversations and enquiries the impact it’s having on the artistic community. Both as an entity for art and as a showcase of trans artists. Teiresian has created a voice and an avenue for trans artists that is wanted in the arts and I cannot wait to see what comes next.

It’s so creative and filled with so much heart and emotion and I think it’s incredible that you’ve made a place where trans art can be the central focus, it is just completely and utterly beautiful.
